New Zealand renewable energy development
Renewable energy development in New Zealand is complex, slow and fragmented. I work with developers, landowners and iwi to move renewable energy projects forward, cutting through the noise on grid connection, consenting strategy, land relationships and project finance, so the right projects get built.
Lead project development
I lead renewable energy projects from site to financial close - overseeing all aspects of the project including finding the site, grid connection, securing the land, consenting, concept design and project economics across a single point of accountability.
Battery Energy Storage Systems investigations
I identify and assess BESS opportunities across New Zealand, matching sites to your portfolio, investment drivers and where the market is heading. You get a clear picture of what is viable and why, grounded in New Zealand electricity market dynamics.
Māori land development
I work alongside Māori landowners and organisations to identify the right renewable energy projects, structure the right relationships, and lead projects that genuinely serve the interests of the whenua and its people.
Lead consenting
I lead the consenting of renewable energy projects through New Zealand’s consenting process - coordinating design, environmental and planning inputs, providing expert evidence at hearings and bring an understanding of what it takes to get complex projects approved.
Site selection and pre-feasibility
I screen, sort and select sites across renewable energy technologies, cutting through the noise to identify what’s worth pursuing. You get a clear, integrated view of technical, environmental and economic viability before committing serious capital.
Renewable energy portfolio building
Starting from scratch or looking to grow? I help organisations build diversified renewable energy development portfolios, identifying the right mix of technologies, sites and risk profiles to maximise long-term value. From first site through to a pipeline of projects, I bring the development expertise to make it happen.
About Lumere
I’m Ryan McCone, a renewable energy development specialist with experience developing complex wind, solar and BESS projects in New Zealand.
I founded Lumere because I believe New Zealand’s energy transition is one of the most important challenges of our generation, and it isn’t moving fast enough.
Most development projects suffer from fragmentation - disciplines working in silos, no one connecting the dots between grid economics, consenting strategy, landowner relationships and project finance. With a background spanning law, economics and environmental planning, I hold all of it together. That’s the gap Lumere fills.
I am based in Christchurch and I work across New Zealand. If you’re serious about getting a renewable energy project over the line, I’d love to talk.
